EAD 991B
Concepts of Educational Inquiry
Spring 2008
Instructor - Steven Weiland
This introductory course provided the opportunity to research and delve into significant issues in education today. We wanted to know what was worth knowing and how are the perspectives and needs of the individual, the school and society brought together in a way that balance can be achieved. Also a part of our inquiry was the impact of modern life on learning and how might our expectations change as our level of understanding increased. The Girl with the Brown Crayon is a short paper I wrote about Vivian Paley's technique of journal writing as a method of teacher inquiry.
An example of my coursework:

Concept of the Learning Society
Fall 2008
Instructors - Nicholas Sheltrown and Steven Weiland
Understanding what a learning society is begins with trying to understand how the term is used in different countries and also how its' meaning has changed over time. Economic, historical, social and cultural contexts all impact a learning society and how it is viewed. The individual's within also have experiences and perspectives about what they believe to a learning society to be. This course explored all of this in an effort to help the student gain understanding about what a learning society means to individuals and groups of individuals. My final paper in the course focuses on what style I have found most effective for using modern media and advancing my own learning.
