TE 838
Children's Literature and Film
Spring 2010
Instructor - Laura Apol
Fidelity to the book is often how films based on a book are viewed. Recognizing that books, films based on those books and even remakes of those original films are all interpretations of a story was an essential component of this course. The issue then is not about fidelity to the book but about fidelity to the story and the different mediums used to express that story result in different interpretations. This course showed that this range of perspectives offers opportunities in the classroom for student creativity. Reflecting upon the different books we read and the films that were based on them was the subject of my paper about film fidelity. My final paper in this course explored my changing opinion on the subject of fidelity to the book.
